Ah, impromptu speaking. How do we make sure that we are ever-ready to say something, especially something smart, when you run into someone or when you are called upon to speak impromptu at a group meeting?
Always assume that you will be put in an impromptu speaking “opportunity.” Always. So now, you won’t be surprised! Have a few go-to topics, aside from the weather, in your back pocket. Also, while you are heading into that conference room or dialing into Zoom nowadays, have the topic of the day clear in your mind. It might just take as little as a minute or two to have a little mental prep ahead of the meeting. Voila. The mantra? Brief and to-the-point.
